Passover Ends: '...and the Traffic Coming Home? Fuggedaboudit!'

This holiday eve marks the seventh night of the week-long Passover festival. Gotta' love a site that sports a Moses looking like this:

Hopefully this is what Jews worldwide will have to look forward to, driving home tomorrow night. No, no - not to our present ones, outside of Israel:

The aforementioned Moses, having grown a few inches and wearing his Red Sea togs, can been seen, aka, "Where's Waldo," in the lower left-hand corner. The writing on the back of the truck says, "Moses Transports," and the road sign graphic shows a vehicle between two parted waves. Gotta' love Photoshop...

And Disney, for the Cliff's Notes:

And for those so inclined, (yeah, as in leaning during the Seder; haha, funny but pretty lame-o pun, huh?), Nefesh B'Nefesh has a great offer:

And yes - getting serious for a moment - I'm seriously considering taking them up on it, after residing here in the "Land of The Round Doorknobs," for over two years in what I refer to as an "etnachta..."

In "Why Would you Live Here?" Veteran American immigrant to Israel, Jewish commentator and author, Daniel Gordis, helps explain why:
"So there we are, sitting at the Shabbat lunch table, guests of friends we hadn’t seen in far too long. We were three couples, all of us immigrants, each with kids, ranging from 22 (with a boyfriend) to 4 (without a boyfriend). And another couple, parents of our hosts, visiting from the States, both of them well known and highly regarded academics. Sometime in the middle of lunch, the mother of the hostess, whose academic interest is “identity,” asks us all, without even a hint of irony or condescension, 'Can you please explain to me why you would choose to live here? What got you to leave what you had and come here?'"

Passover: Priestly Blessing at the Western Wall (exclusive photo)

Watching the ritual, Passover 2005. (Photo: Dave Bender)

Ultra-orthodox youths on scaffolding at the Western Wall get a better view of the ancient Passover ceremony of the priestly blessing of multitudes of worshipers packed into the plaza. Click on the photo to see a full-sized image.

Passover Preparations 2009 18 03 2009

Spring is in the air and that means it is time to start preparing for Passover, which begins on 8 April. I am not going to be doing a lot of preparation this year, but I have gathered a few interesting recipes for you to consider for your own meal. First, here is a link to all of my Passover recipes from the last couple of years. And, here are some interesting ones for you to try:

You go there. Now.

This Just in: 'In The Ten Commandments, I Performed All My Own Miracles'

Whenever people talk about The Ten Commandments, a
film I made 50 years ago with a fellow named Cecil B. DeMille, they go on and on about the impressive "special effects." So let me take this opportunity to set the record straight: I performed all my own miracles in that picture, so if you're going to praise someone, it should be me.

I'm not one to allow some punk editor to cut and paste me into the middle of a Red Sea I didn't part myself. I rode a chariot in Ben-Hur for Pete's sake, and you can be darn sure I'll channel God's power to move a little water about when I need to.

Oh, Moses, Moses, Moses...

After Passover Planning: Bagel on a shtick

Don't mind me. I'm just counting down the minutes and planning for after Passover, when we go back to bagel time...

CD's are soooo last century, anyway, right?

Shabbat Shalom, Moadim l'simcha, Happy Easter, and have a great weekend.

...And this just in: Matzah ice cream in Israel (updated to an, umm, fuller meal)

Seders will never be the same (and I'm not real sure that's a good thing...)

Ben & Jerry’s is marketing a matzah-flavored ice cream in Israel.
"Matzah Crunch" was developed exclusively for the Jewish state, Avi Singer, the general manager of Ben & Jerry's in Israel, was quoted as saying in Israel's Maariv newspaper on Sunday.

The French vanilla-flavored ice cream contains chips of chocolate-covered matzah. It must be bought directly from the Ben & Jerry's factory in Yavne and costs about $4.50 a pound.

Maariv said the new flavor could be sold in Israeli supermarkets next year.
Send Pizza and Soda (Pepsi or Coca-Cola) to actve duty Israeli Soldiers
You know, a kosher-for-Passover Coke and kosher-for-Passover Pizza would go well with this...

A few questions for tomorrow night at the Seder - (NOT the "Famous Four," and not to be confused with the Fantastic Four...):
  • Do Ben & Jerry - well-known for supporting left-of-center causes, know about PizzaIDF, and would they do a co-branding deal?
  • Does this go as dessert (aka - "afikomen") after the matzah-based pizza at Reform Seders?
  • Can the "Days of the Redeemer of Israel" be far behind?
